Scottish Rite Scholarships

The Valley of Erie accepts completed scholarship applications between January and March each year for the Leon M. Abbott Scholarship Program and for the Valley of Erie Scottish Rite Foundation Scholarship Program.  Paperwork requirements are quite different for each program.

Valley of Erie Scottish Rite Scholarships

Members of the Erie Scottish Rite may sponsor up to three residents of Erie and Crawford Counties who wish to apply for college scholarships each year.  Applications are awarded based upon financial need, academic criteria, essay, extra-curricular activities, and career objective.

Applications and further requirements for the Scholarship Foundation Awards are available January through March by calling the Scottish Rite Office at (814) 835-0432.  An awards program is held the first Tuesday in June each year.  Seventy-one scholarships were awarded in 2015.  Checks are made payable to the student’s college or university.

This year, the award amounts are expected to be between $750 and $2,000. A not-for-profit corporation, the Scholarship Foundation has been nurtured through the generous patronage of members and friends of Scottish Rite. Please note that scholarship awards are paid directly to the school in the student’s name. Students do not have to repay these awards. Students should learn from their other sources of financial assistance whether a scholarship will affect financial assistance.
